Class 5 – Years 5 and 6

Welcome to Class 5’s page!

We hope you find this useful and informative.

Our mission is Class 5 is simply to ‘be the best that we can be’. We aim to work collaboratively together to help and support each other by celebrating our strengths and supporting each other in our areas for development. We accept and understand that no-one can do everything but everyone can do something.

Having a growth mindset underpins all we do in our class – we understand that our brain is a muscle which can grow bigger and stronger if we work hard and show resilience; failure is our key to success.

Our class novels are really important; it is through these carefully-chosen books that we learn to structure our own writing in different ways. The themes of our books also help us to learn more about the world around us and our shared history.

Reading is an essential life skill. All children have their own green Reading Record Books and we encourage parents/carers to listen to children reading on a regular basis.

Religious Education in Class 5

Children in Class 5 continue to deepen their understanding of ‘driver words’, such as ‘making links’ and ‘show understanding’.

We use a wide variety of religous sources when exploring a particular theme or topic, including ‘Open Bible’, hymn books, the words of Pope Francis or perhaps the principles of Catholic Social Teaching (to name a few).

All children in Class 5 have opportunities to plan and lead acts of worship using our Let Us Pray 2gether resources and the NDCYS materials. Our most recent act of worship for parents and families, was based on the example set for us by Saint Thérèse of Lisieux.

“God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission.” Cardinal John Henry Newman
