Poverty Proofing

At Saint Norbert’s we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background.

At some time or another, most families experience financial difficulty – particularly when faced with rising costs of living. ‘Poverty proofing’ the school day is an initiative designed to ensure that financial worries do not hinder a child’s education or social experience. By identifying and addressing potential barriers faced by children and families, we aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Our desire is not only to lessen the anxiety associated with financial difficulty but also to foster a deeper sense of belonging in our school community. By taking small steps to help, such as carefully considering the impact that school can have on families when times are hard, we will continue to strive to alleviate the pressures that school life can sometimes inadvertently create.

The potential of poverty proofing our school day is huge; not only does it allow all children to engage more fully in the learning experience, but it also promotes better emotional wellbeing and social cohesion. By cultivating an atmosphere in which all children feel valued and supported, we hope to contribute to their personal growth and development.

At Saint Norbert’s, we are committed to nurturing every individual, ensuring that no child feels left behind and that all might flourish in a positive, nurturing environment. We recognise that education-related costs can add up to a large proportion of family budgets each year and therefore seek to ensure that these costs stay as low as possible.

Should you any aspect of school life make you anxious due to financial difficulties, please feel welcome to speak with Mr Dawson in confidence.
